AI in education can have many uses, and one of the top level applicaton is to apply language learning where it is the starter to learn other technology knowledge, culture and history. To present how the language learning can be implemented and what components are need to design with a demonstration.

It is interesting to explore how the ChatGPT was built upon an open AI. Over the past few years, there have been several legal cases related to ChatGPT. People often think AI will bring more ease and peace in research. In June 2023, the US court fined two lawyers and one law firm for citing fictitious case law created using ChatGPT. Nonetheless, people are finding ways to use it for good. Few months ago in Hong Kong, AI-enabled software to produce Cantonese voice transcriptions was used to produce the judges’ own notes. The use of AI is far from taking the responsibility of the legal professionals in their daily work. Some uses of AI capacities already promise greater efficiency and effectiveness such as text recognition or optical character recognition (OCR) and contract review. Both potential and grey areas are worth more discussion and exploration from the legal perspective.

HKU SAAS Data Science Lab has implemented the HKU SAAS Meta-Innovation Commercial Center in HKU Campusland Metaverse. Metaverse is the future meta-business platform. It allows people to interact in a simulated real-life environment and creating scene for constructing human wisdom. This presentation introduces the life cycle of wisdom management and the AI and data science methods, and discusses how they can be applied in law wisdom management and knowledge discover and be deployed them in metaverse to accelerate lawyer’s knowledge and real-life experience in law cases.

After a round of NFT craze and the bursting of the cryptocurrency bubble, some people say that the metaverse is over. ln fact, according to the development model of the "technology maturity curve", after the hype, tlre value of high- tech will fall to the bottom, and then after the actual application of enterprises, the value will continue to rise, but will enter a stable period. So, will the value of these technologies rise again? The metaverse plus "generative artificial intelligence" is such a situation.

In many metropolitan cities, there is a lack of manpower in social care. In Hong Kong, for example, the elderly care homes report a 70% shortage of employees. To alleviate these issues, recently there is a lot of attention on “data science for social goods”, or the use of technologies for enhancing service quality and streamlining administrative work of social workers. In this talk, I will discuss how the HKU STAR (Social Technology And Research) Lab uses data science technologies to support elderly and family care services. I will first introduce HINCare, a software platform that provides volunteering and cultivating mutual-help culture in the community. HINCare uses the HIN (Heterogeneous Information Network) to recommend helpers to elders or other service recipients, and is now supporting 14 NGOs and 7,000 users. I will also discuss our collaboration with the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust for developing a novel case management and data analysis system for 40% of the family care centers in Hong Kong. These projects have received an HKICT Award, Asia Smart App Awards, and HKU Faculty Knowledge Exchange Awards.
